“My love for flowers began over 30 years ago when I decided to go to an evening flower arranging class with my mom. I was still at school and had to beg my way in as children were not allowed. I loved it! I soaked up the information like a sponge. I went to this class for two years. My first job was as a trainee florist I learnt a lot there and realised it was the only job I wanted to do” says Wendi Durber from The Orchard Florist.

“I did all of my formal training at Rodbaston college in Staffordshire and admired the skills of the lecturers so much that I decided I wanted to lecture in floristry. I studied for many years and achieved a level 5 in floristry and gained teaching and assessing qualifications. I then went on to teach at the college I loved so much.” Wendi worked there for around 8 years during and this time she led teams of students to win lots of awards including best in show for a Beach wedding at gardeners world live. Wendi left Rodbaston to concentrate on her own floristry business The Orchard Florist which was established in 1990. Wendi says her love for floristry remains and her heart and soul goes into every design that goes out of the shop. Working closely alongside Wendi is her niece Leanne who has much the same passion as Wendi herself. Wendi says she often refers to them as ‘the dream team’!

Some of the most memorable work includes a traveller caravan, a Viking ship, a pink elephant and a wolves supporting monkey on skis, a double decker bus and the Manchester United emblem.
